In the short story, set at a mining camp in California , Fetlock Jones, a nephew of Sherlock Holmes, kills his master, a silver-miner, by blowing up his cabin. Perhaps this ought to be seen as yet another piece where Twain tries to prove that life does not quite follow logic. Copyright concerns at the time forced Holmes to be renamed "Herlock Sholmes" or "Holmlock Shears", and Watson to be renamed "Wilson", in subsequent appearances.
